VILHELM LAURITZEN ARCHITECTS SOLVE THE TRAFFIC PROBLEM IN COPENHAGEN AIRPORT

26. January 2018

From June 2018 a new walkway in Copenhagen Airport will provide a better flow for passengers who only have cabin luggage. As the client-consultant, together with COWI, Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects has designed the new shortcut from the Metro, through Terminal 3, and directly to the security checkpoint and SAS fast track.

To relieve the busy floor level, the 100-metre-long bridge will create space for all the passengers who are checking in their luggage, while saving time for all those with no luggage to check in. The bridge is a long-awaited solution that meets an urgent need, in line with the huge increase in the number of travellers in Copenhagen Airport.

With a width of 5 metres and its future status as the longest indoor walkway in Denmark, the bridge is designed with respect for Terminal 3’s original architecture. The walkway will be supported by the existing pillars, and the spaciousness of the terminal’s iconic structure will remain intact.
