RØDE PORT
ROSKILDE
VLA has joined up with Claus B. Hansen and Rambøll Nyvig to draw up a proposal for the development of the area around Roskilde Station. The project involves 1500 new jobs, 90,000 square metres if car parking, 100 homes, a hotel, a conference centre and retail outlets.
If it is built, Project Røde Port (or “Red Gate”) will be one of the biggest developments Roskilde has ever seen. The entire area from the Røde Port railway bridge to Roskilde Station will be included in the project, which will give the area coherence, linking the station building with shops, conference facilities, homes, office space and a hotel. All the car parks in the area will be underground.
In keeping with the “Finger Plan” imposed by planners on the area surrounding Copenhagen the project will ensure better use of the areas near the railway network and is a good example of urban planning working with the development of public transport. The location will create an attractive town centre while promoting the use of public transport and relieving the roads.
