RIGA URBAN DESIGN; RIGA, LATVIA
The proposal focuses on three concepts in achieving the best platform for a vibrant new city centre;
- Visual and physical connection to the old city centre,
- Availability to the public and
- Infrastructure
By creating a landscape that connects the park areas in the south with the Daugava river and the old city centre one gets a continuous flow between the two city centres.
The visual connection is created by making the new City Council with it’s high tower as a landmark that relates to the old church towers on the other side of the Daugava.
A new city centre should be available to the public. To achieve this the landscape folds itself through the new complex for administration and the City Council.
The project proposes an infrastructural hub that connects the train station, the tram station and vehicular traffic. The new station places itself in the landscape, attached to the flow between the old city centre and the southern parts of Riga.
