MULTICENTRE, RØDVIG

This is the VLA design proposal for a multifunctional institution housing a crèche, a nursery school, after-school club and sports facilities.

The buildings combine into a compact, continuous sequence around a well-defined welcoming square to the north. This releases the greatest possible continuous outdoor area to the south, with space for many forms of movement and play.

All age groups and activities are housed under one roof and at the same level in order to meet the aim of the project to create a democratic building where everybody is equal.

The south-west orientation of the site is exploited to optimise daylight, integrate sustainable energy measures on roof surfaces, and to create good links between indoor and outdoor areas.

The compact layout makes the building more energy-efficient and reduces the need for additional, active energy measures.
