IKC - SPORTS AND CULTURE CENTRE

The overall concept behind the VLA competition entry for the IKC is the creation of a coherent, easily-grasped complex of buildings primarily oriented towards the forthcoming Campus Torv [square] on Tinghusgade and the places of education in the area. This is the location of the library and foyer, creating an active façade onto the square which will lend an airy and welcoming feel to the building.

On arrival visitors are led into the foyer via an inner street running from north to south which is linked to the café. The inner street forms the main axis of the complex, linking and unifying the many services provided by the IKC.

In developing the concept we emphasized the importance of providing a natural, informal cultural meeting place in interaction with existing sports facilities in order to bring the people of Grindsted, students and sportsmen and women together.
