The VLA proposal for a new stadium at Lyngby, Denmark, adopts an unusual architectural point of view: that a major amenity is only just visible from a distance.

VLA chose an approach in which the large stadium will be hidden in a hollow, protected by extensive grassy slopes. This will give visitors a fantastic experience in which the stadium is gradually revealed to the eye as they penetrate the gorge-like displacements in the landscape.

The result is a stadium which merges with its surroundings and at a distance is only just discernible. On closer inspection the amenity breaks through the landscape with great power, creating a unique setting for formidable encounters on the pitch, an intense ambience and wonderful experiences for those in the stands.
