SWIMMING BATHS,
HUDIKSVALL
VLA’s proposal for the new harbour-side swimming baths at Hudiksvall, Sweden, are beautifully located on the water’s edge where the city gives way to the sea.
The building consists of three main elements: “The Base”, “The Core”, and “The Folded Roof”.
“The Base” contains the services related to city life, the pools and the technical utilities, and generates a sense of movement from the town, through the building and down to the sea.
“The Core” houses “private” services such as changing rooms and the saunas. “The Core” is the only completely encapsulated space.
“The Folded Roof” unites all parts of the building into one dynamic movement and gives it a clear architectural identity.
Environmental effectiveness is an important element in the proposal. The project allows for double glass frontages enabling natural ventilation, sea-water cooling and geothermal heating. |
