HOUSING IN BUILDING AREA 1
The objective of the block plan is to create a framework for the development of housing and business at the threshold between town and common, at the same time seeking to break down the scale of Ørestaden through a structure using smaller volumes interconnected by a continuous curved road and small streets, thus giving multiple possibilities for occupancy, variety and sense of belonging for the residents.
The housing takes its origin in the Local Plan proposal with a block development that follows the boulevard to the east and the common to the west and north. The development is bound on the south side by another housing and business development.
We have chosen a varying interplay between slim and large volumes as the main theme of the assignment. If one takes the collective block size into consideration, it is evident that the development should be divided into smaller units in order to achieve a lively contemporary expression and for the residents to get a special sense of affiliation to a particular part of the block plan. In other words, it has been important to work with simple and easily perceivable architectural elements that can create large variation in the collective block structure.
