VLA TO DESIGN NEW CHANCERY IN INDIA

Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects teamed up with V.V. Architects Pvt. Ltd and EJK Rådgivende Ingeniører AS to win the Danish Foreign Ministry competition for the new chancery for the Danish Embassy in New Delhi.

The project covers a new chancery and visa section, an incubator section and the potential to house the chancery of a second sovereign nation. The project also includes a number of staff residences.

It totals some 3500 square metres of floor space plus an underground car park and showroom.

The winning entry is based on a flexible building complex in a timeless Nordic design emphasising security and sustainability. The chancery has been designed in accordance with current Danish and Indian security standards and guidelines as regards earthquakes and acts of terrorism. Sustainability measures include elements such as solar arrays and automated electrical utilities integrated into the proposal.

Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter has embassy design experience from the building of a joint Danish, Norwegian and Icelandic embassy in Maputo, Mozambique in 2000. Architect Vilhelm Lauritzen also designed the Danish embassy in Washington DC.
