As part of its international efforts Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects has been examining the potential of Eastern Europe. This has already paid off in Slovakia.

VLA is now designing a 64 000 m2 housing project there for Grünt a.a., a property company. The project is part of Spark New City, a major structural plan taking shape on the outskirts of Bratislava.

The blocks of apartments will be U-shaped structures around inner courtyards. Between the buildings there will be green fingers featuring tall grass and ponds. The background is provided by the lovely mountains.

The blocks will be from three to seven stories high and form a living landscape, concluding with the highest frontage facing a shopping thoroughfare.

The emphasis is on providing homes for a broad cross-section of the people of Bratislava and environs. The apartments thus range from small studios of 35 m2 to large apartments of 150 to 200 m2.
