VLA IS DESIGNING A SUSTAINABLE OFFICE BUILDING IN 'VORES BY' (OUR TOWN)

ReTHINK – ReCYCLE – ReCREATE

Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter has been commissioned by Carlsberg Ejendomme to transform a old malt silo at Ny Carlsbergvej, Copenhagen, into a modern, multifunctional, sustainable 4000 square metre urban building containing office facilities, cafes, shops and public services.

The conversion of the silo building at the heart of Ny Carlsberg in the immediate vicinity of the celebrated Dipylon Gate will be one of the first projects to come to fruition in the ambitious transformation of the former brewery into Vores By, a lively new Copenhagen quarter.

Sustainability from the start
The aim is to carry out the project as an example of the maximum social revitalisation of a former industrial site while minimising the environmental burden.

This will be done by using the existing silo structures and sustainable materials such as recycled tiles. This approach will be combined with environmentally responsible solutions such as natural ventilation, energy-saving utilities, the optimized use of daylight, and enabling the integration of sola arrays, rainwater collection and “green roofs”.

Not for the first time
This will be the second time Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter have “rethought” a silo for Carlsberg. In 1998 VLA was responsible for rebuilding and fitting out the 85 metre silo at Kongens Bryghus on Rahbæks Allé, Copenhagen, formerly used for storing malt. It now contains 33 flats on 22 floors.
